Sea Rescue Off Baja California Coast: Mexican Navy Saves 4 After Plane Crash

LA PAZ, Mexico — In a high-stakes overnight operation, the Mexican Navy successfully rescued four people after their small plane ran out of fuel and crash-landed in the waters near Cerralvo Island, officials said Friday.

The Cessna 210 aircraft was forced to make an emergency water landing late Thursday between the coastal communities of El Sargento and La Ventana in Baja California Sur, according to Mexico’s Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR).

Authorities sprang into action after receiving a distress call from the crew, who reported they were "low on fuel" and unable to reach their destination. The Fourth Naval Zone immediately deployed a rescue helicopter and two patrol boats from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) in La Paz.

"Thanks to the swift response of our teams, all four individuals were located and brought to safety without serious injuries," a Navy spokesperson said. The survivors were transported to ENSAR La Paz’s dock, where they were evaluated and found to be in stable condition.

A Race Against Time
The operation highlighted the dangers of aviation emergencies over water, particularly in remote areas. The Mexican Navy, which also serves as the country’s Coast Guard, has been increasingly active in maritime rescue missions along the Baja California Peninsula, a region popular with private pilots and boaters.

Emergency Contacts for Mariners
SEMAR reminded the public that emergency maritime assistance is available via:

"Our mission is to protect lives at sea," the Navy said in a statement, reaffirming its commitment to search-and-rescue operations in Mexican waters.

The successful rescue drew praise from local officials, who credited the crew’s quick mayday call and the Navy’s rapid deployment for preventing a potential tragedy.

No further details were immediately released about the identities of the survivors or their intended flight path. The incident remains under investigation.
