Alaska Airlines Resumes Los Angeles–La Paz Route After a Decade

LA PAZ — After a 10-year hiatus, Alaska Airlines has officially relaunched its Los Angeles–La Paz flight, a move hailed as a significant boost for regional connectivity and tourism. Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío celebrated the milestone, emphasizing its potential to position Baja California Sur as a leading global destination while fostering inclusive economic growth for local communities.

“This flight reconnects us to an opportunity we lost a decade ago,” said Governor Castro Cosío during the inauguration ceremony at La Paz airport. “It strengthens La Paz’s ties to other parts of Mexico and the world, building bridges for development and shared prosperity.”

The route will initially operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and expand to three weekly flights by 2025, adding Mondays to the schedule. The service is expected to transport more than 7,000 passengers this year alone, injecting new energy into the local economy.

Maribel Collins, the state’s Secretary of Tourism and Economy, joined the governor in underscoring the importance of this connection. The government also revealed plans to attract direct flights from Europe to La Paz, mirroring the success seen in Los Cabos.

Governor Castro Cosío highlighted Los Angeles International Airport’s strategic role in funneling travelers to La Paz, with many passengers arriving from across the United States. He expressed confidence that this revitalized connection would enhance the city’s international profile and attract additional airlines to serve the region.

With this development, La Paz is poised for greater global recognition, paving the way for sustained tourism growth and economic benefits for Baja California Sur.
