Fire Department Holds Emergency Preparedness Training for Expat Community Ahead of Hurricane Season

The Cabo San Lucas Fire Department conducted a specialized disaster preparedness workshop this week aimed at foreign residents, as part of proactive measures for the 2025 hurricane season.

Fire Prevention Chief Jorge Barrera led the initiative, which covered critical topics including temporary shelter locations, family emergency planning, emergency supply kits, early warning systems, and this year's tropical storm forecasts.

"We're equipping our international community with vital knowledge to handle extreme weather situations," Barrera stated. The training was organized in collaboration with the Los Cabos Tourism Board and local Civil Protection authorities, with participation from U.S. Consulate representatives.

Held at a time when the popular expat destination prepares for potential storms, the session emphasized practical survival skills and official emergency protocols. Sgt. Sigifredo Romero, who instructed the course, walked attendees through scenario-based preparations. With hurricane season underway, officials stress the importance of all residents - both Mexican nationals and foreign expatriates - being prepared for possible evacuations or power outages.

The fire department plans additional community outreach programs throughout storm season to reinforce safety measures in this coastal region vulnerable to tropical cyclones.
