Los Cabos Intensifies Cleanup Efforts Along Transpeninsular Highway

SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO — The City of Los Cabos, through its General Directorate of Public Services, has ramped up a comprehensive cleanup initiative along the Transpeninsular Highway as part of an ongoing urban beautification program.

The latest efforts focused on a stretch near the Santa Rosa neighborhood, where crews removed over one ton of solid waste, including plastic and cardboard, from the arroyo (dry creek bed) and medians of this key roadway.

Public Services Director Ernesto Montaño Castro emphasized that these measures reinforce the local government’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness and urban upkeep while encouraging residents to take shared responsibility for environmental care.

“As a world-class tourist destination, we must keep our public spaces pristine,” Montaño Castro stated. “Thousands of visitors—especially from the United States—choose Los Cabos for its safety and beauty. Preserving that image is a collective effort.”

The city government urges residents and businesses to properly dispose of trash and avoid illegal dumping, particularly in flood-prone areas like arroyos, which can become hazardous during rainy seasons.

This cleanup drive aligns with broader strategies to enhance infrastructure and sustainability ahead of peak tourist seasons. Officials remind the community that maintaining clean streets and highways is crucial for both public health and the local economy.

Next steps: The Public Services Department plans to expand cleanup operations to other high-traffic zones, with increased enforcement against littering.
