Deadly Crash on Pescadero-Elías Calles Highway Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

El PESCADERO, Baja California Sur — A violent single-vehicle crash in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, claimed one life and left two others seriously injured, according to local emergency responders.

The accident occurred around 1:10 a.m. near kilometer marker 80+200 on the Pescadero-Elías Calles highway. Authorities were alerted by a call from Todos Santos dispatch operator.

First responders arrived within minutes to find a gray 2005 Hyundai Tucson—missing license plates—wrapped around a concrete highway divider.

The victims included:
- Karla Paola Santiago, 14, suffering a broken left forearm and deep cuts to her face and leg.
- Nery Galeano Apolinar, 32, with compound fractures to both legs and possible hip trauma.
- José Armando Domínguez Onofre, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A dozen paramedics from EMS Rescue, Bomberos Voluntarios, Pescadero Fire, and Todos Santos EMS worked the wreck. The two survivors were airlifted to Cabo San Lucas General Hospital in stable but serious condition.

National Guard troops secured the crash site while state investigators (AEIC) and prosecutors opened case file TS/144/2025. The Medical Examiner's Office removed the deceased as federal highway patrol began reconstructing the collision.

"This appears to be a high-speed impact," said an investigating officer at daybreak, noting the vehicle's catastrophic damage. "We're urging drivers to respect night-time speed limits, especially during summer travel season."
