- Roads Washed Out, Emergency Rescues Underway
Extraordinary rainfall hit the towns of Todos Santos and El Pescadero last night, causing creeks to swell and overflow, sweeping debris, rocks, and accumulated trash toward the ocean.
At Los Cerritos Beach, the rushing waters flowed near residential areas and carried away a traditional surfboard rental stand. In Todos Santos, just past the gas station at the entrance from La Paz, a rising creek led to a dramatic rescue that was captured on video. A person on horseback had to be saved, and afterward, local residents worked together to free the horse, which had become trapped under a bridge and was at risk of drowning.
The Undersecretary of Civil Protection of the Government of Baja California Sur reported that a sinkhole has formed on Highway 19 at kilometer 50 on the La Paz-Todos Santos route. Specialized crews are currently working to make the road safe for traffic.
As a temporary measure, access to Todos Santos has been diverted to the southern bypass until repairs on the affected stretch are complete.
Authorities are urging drivers to proceed with caution, obey road signs, and follow instructions from personnel at the site.
The State Government reaffirmed its commitment to acting quickly to ensure the safety of all highway users in Baja California Sur. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid danger zones and drive carefully through the area.
Since early morning, the representative of La Paz County in Todos Santos had already begun road clearing, garbage collection, and temporary repairs to ensure traffic flow was not interrupted.
No fatalities have been reported in connection with the heavy rains. Only some material damages occurred.
