Speaking before the Association of Communicators of Los Cabos, Morando Villa noted that the sector is experiencing renewed optimism as flights arriving to the destination are reporting around 90% occupancy, signaling robust tourism demand.
A major factor behind the projected growth is the upcoming Spring Break season, which is expected to bring approximately 50,000 young visitors to Los Cabos. In addition, an estimated 10,000 more Spring Break travelers are now expected to arrive after canceling their trips to Puerto Vallarta, redirecting their travel plans to Los Cabos instead. This unexpected shift is likely to generate additional economic activity for restaurants, hotels, and entertainment venues in the destination.
Morando Villa also revealed that during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, international investors showed interest in expanding the culinary scene in Los Cabos. Restaurant groups from Spain and Colombia are reportedly considering opening new establishments in the region, reflecting the destination’s growing international reputation for high-end gastronomy.
The CANIRAC leader emphasized that Los Cabos attracts high-end, quality tourism, which requires restaurants to maintain world-class standards in both service and food supply. He stressed the importance of improving infrastructure and logistics for high-quality food sourcing in order to remain competitive with the world’s leading tourism destinations.
Despite the positive outlook, the sector faces certain challenges. Approximately 20 restaurants have closed in Los Cabos since 2025, highlighting the need to improve supply logistics and address fiscal and administrative costs affecting restaurant operators.
Regarding security, Morando Villa said that restaurant representatives recently met with the state’s prosecutor to discuss safety issues. While Los Cabos continues to be considered one of Mexico’s safest tourist destinations, some restaurant owners have reported receiving extortion phone calls, which authorities are currently investigating.
To welcome visitors during the busy season, local restaurateurs are organizing a special event this Saturday at El Médano Beach, where local musicians will perform to entertain tourists and promote the destination’s hospitality.
Overall, industry leaders remain confident that the combination of strong flight occupancy and the influx of Spring Break travelers—particularly the 10,000 visitors shifting from Puerto Vallarta—will make this one of the most dynamic tourism seasons for Los Cabos in recent years.
