More Than 1,350 Athletes From 40 Countries Compete in IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos

With more than 1,350 athletes from 40 countries taking part, IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos kicked off Sunday, once again placing the destination on the global sports-tourism map.

Los Cabos municipal officials said they have closely followed the planning process since the earliest stages of coordination for the international event, describing the race as another opportunity to showcase the region before a worldwide audience and strengthen its global profile.

The competition is expected to conclude around 3 p.m., followed by an awards ceremony led by the mayor of Los Cabos.

City officials said a comprehensive security operation is in place to ensure that families, visitors, athletes and spectators can enjoy the event in a safe and orderly environment. Authorities said the plan prioritizes the protection of competitors and the thousands of people expected to attend, while also seeking to reduce traffic impacts through close coordination with race organizers.

Residents were urged to stay informed about alternate routes that were previously announced, in order to avoid delays, ease travel around the area and allow both event attendance and daily activities to move as smoothly as possible.

Elton Emmanuel Olachea Arce, director general of the Los Cabos Municipal Sports Institute, highlighted the strong local turnout, saying about 90 athletes from Baja California Sur are participating, more than half of them from Los Cabos. Many, he noted, are seeking to qualify for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship and are expected to represent the region with pride.

Olachea Arce also acknowledged the mayor’s support for sports and sports tourism, saying events of this scale help expand Los Cabos’ international reach while generating significant economic benefits for the local community.
