Runway Reopens at Los Cabos Airport After Private Jet Malfunction Prompts Brief Shutdown

San José del Cabo, Mexico — Full operations resumed at Los Cabos International Airport following a temporary shutdown triggered by a technical malfunction aboard a private aircraft, local civil protection authorities said.

The incident involved an executive jet that experienced overheating in its landing gear upon arrival, prompting airport officials to immediately activate emergency safety protocols. As a precaution, the main runway was closed while response teams addressed the situation.

According to the municipal Civil Protection office in Los Cabos, the airport’s internal fire and rescue units quickly brought the situation under control. No injuries were reported, and the aircraft was secured and removed without further complications.

“Airport firefighting crews handled the situation promptly. Within roughly 30 minutes, the runway was cleared and deemed safe, with no additional risks identified,” the agency said in a statement. “Flights are now arriving and departing as scheduled.”

Officials noted that no external emergency units were required, underscoring the effectiveness of the airport’s on-site response teams. Municipal authorities monitored the incident to ensure there were no broader risks to nearby communities.

The brief disruption, lasting about half an hour, allowed for the safe removal of the aircraft and a thorough inspection of the runway in accordance with international aviation safety standards.
