Jeep Owners Warned: Park Outside Due to Fire Risk — Even When the Vehicle Is Turned Off

A major safety alert is raising concerns among Jeep owners after a new recall involving Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models made from 2021 to 2025.

According to the report, nearly one million Jeep vehicles are being recalled because of a potential fire risk linked to a wiring issue in the vehicle’s electric hydraulic power steering pump.

The warning is serious: owners are being told to park outside and away from homes, garages, buildings and other vehicles until the issue is fixed.

The concern is that, in rare cases, the wiring may overheat and catch fire — even when the Jeep is not running.

Federal auto safety officials reportedly identified 51 fires and at least one injury that may be connected to the defect. One owner said his Jeep Gladiator caught fire while parked in a garage, highlighting why the warning has alarmed many drivers.

For some Jeep owners, the recommendation is frustrating and difficult to follow. People who live in crowded cities, apartments, neighborhoods with limited parking, rural areas with no streetlights, or places with extreme heat may not have an easy or safe place to park away from structures.

Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, said it expects a repair solution soon and is urging customers to follow the safety guidance in the meantime.

The recall is also part of a growing trend in the auto industry. In recent years, several manufacturers have issued similar “park outside” warnings because modern vehicles contain more electronic components that can remain active or hold electrical charge even after the vehicle is turned off.

Some owners say they are taking the risk seriously. Others believe Jeep may be acting out of extreme caution. But the official advice is clear: if your Wrangler or Gladiator is part of the recall, do not park it inside a garage or close to your home until it has been repaired.

A vehicle parked in the wrong place could become a fire danger.
Jeep owners should check immediately whether their model is included in the recall.
