Man shot dead by LAPD officers following altercation in Pacoima

In an encounter with cops in Pacoima on Tuesday night, an armed suspect was shot and killed, according to the LAPD. Just before nine o'clock at night, the incident took place close to a housing complex along Carl Street and Lehigh Avenue.

A man with a gun was reported, and police were dispatched to the scene.

Officers from the department's Foothill Division Gang Enforcement Detail attempted a traffic stop on a black BMW, the LAPD says. That's when police say the front passenger, a 20-year-old man armed with a gun, got out of the car and ran away.

Following a foot pursuit, cops eventually opened fire. After being shot by police, the person was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The suspect was later declared deceased, according to the LAPD.
