TRUMP Considers Military Operations in Mexico to Combat Cartels

Reports indicate that former President Donald Trump's team is deliberating potential military strategies against Mexican cartels, including deploying **U.S. Special Forces** for targeted operations to dismantle cartel leadership and infrastructure. Dubbed by some as a "soft invasion," these actions could involve covert strikes rather than large-scale troop deployments.

Key Figures Backing Action
Marco Rubio, Trump's pick for Secretary of State, has expressed support for military involvement, contingent on Mexico's cooperation. Similarly, Pete Hegseth, slated to lead the Pentagon, and Tom Homan, designated as border czar, have publicly advocated for classifying cartels as terrorist organizations to justify military action. Legislative proposals for authorizing such measures are already circulating among lawmakers.

Mexican Government Pushback
Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has strongly condemned the idea, calling it "fictional" and reaffirming the nation’s sovereignty. Outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador also rejected interventionist policies, favoring social strategies over military confrontation.

Divided Opinions in the U.S.
While some Republicans rally behind aggressive anti-cartel actions, others warn of heightened violence and strained U.S.-Mexico relations. As this debate unfolds, the implications for international diplomacy and regional stability remain uncertain.

President Sheinbaum Rejects U.S. Interference Amid Cartel Policy Dispute

During a visit to Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum issued a strong warning against foreign interference following U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's announcement to classify drug cartels as terrorist organizations.

Referring to a letter sent to Trump, Sheinbaum emphasized the need for collaboration, not subordination, in addressing drug trafficking and consumption. “Drugs are consumed there, weapons come from there, and here we put the lives—that is not acceptable. We collaborate, coordinate, and work together, but we will never subordinate ourselves,” she declared.

Sheinbaum reaffirmed Mexico’s stance as a free, sovereign, and independent nation, rejecting any attempts at intervention. This statement comes amid heightened tensions over Trump's proposed policies and signals a firm defense of Mexico's autonomy on the global stage.
