Los Cabos: A Beacon of Safety and Tranquility for Tourists and Residents

Los Cabos has solidified its reputation as a safe haven for tourists and locals alike, climbing to sixth place nationally in security perception, according to the National Survey of Urban Public Safety (ENSU) conducted by Mexico's National Institute of Statistics (INEGI). Released on January 23, 2025, the survey results highlight the concerted efforts of various governmental levels to ensure peace and security in the region.

The local government attributes this achievement to seamless coordination among key institutions, including the Navy, SEDENA, the National Guard, State Police, and the Municipal Police and Transit Department. These entities have worked hand-in-hand to create an environment where safety is a top priority.

“Since the beginning of this Administration, led by Architect Christian Agúndez, security has been one of our primary focuses,” stated the Secretary General of the City Hall. “Every weekday, we convene at the Municipal Security Table to address pressing issues and maintain progress in this area.”

Rising Above the Rest
Los Cabos now stands as the leading tourist destination in Mexico in terms of safety perception. The municipality’s rise from seventh to sixth place among the nation’s safest cities underscores a significant improvement, particularly notable in a national context where safety perceptions have declined in many other regions.

This upward trajectory reflects the dedication of local authorities to ensure the tranquility of both visitors and residents. However, officials recognize there is still work to be done. Areas requiring further attention include family and gender-based violence—issues that remain a priority for the administration.

Proactive Measures for Vulnerable Populations
In response to ongoing challenges, the government has announced the continuation of special inspections in nightclubs and commercial zones to protect minors in vulnerable situations. “Our objective is not only to remove minors from the streets but to prevent these situations from arising in the first place. We want to send a clear message: there is authority, and the laws will be enforced with full respect for human rights,” the Secretary emphasized.

Preparing for Potential Challenges
Amid concerns over possible mass deportations from the United States, Los Cabos has activated monitoring mechanisms at airports and other key points. While historical data suggests minimal impact from such deportations, authorities remain vigilant to ensure the municipality is prepared for any potential developments.

A Model for Safety and Growth
As Los Cabos continues to rise in prominence as a secure and attractive destination, its leadership’s commitment to safety and proactive governance sets a benchmark for other municipalities. With a clear focus on maintaining tranquility and addressing critical social issues, Los Cabos is not just a picturesque tourist spot but a model for comprehensive urban safety and community well-being.
