Cabo San Lucas, Mexico — Federal security forces arrested eight people in a raid on a carwash in the Cangrejos neighborhood of this resort city, authorities announced Tuesday.
According to the Mexican government, the operation was carried out by the Federal Secretariat of Public Security, headed by Omar García Harfuch. Investigators said the site was being used as a hub for drug sales.
During the raid, officers seized:
-
95 doses of cocaine
-
33 bags and 52 doses of marijuana
-
445 doses of methamphetamine
-
A handgun with 30 rounds of ammunition
-
Two tactical vests
-
19 e-cigarettes
-
Six slot machines
-
Two money-counting machines
The suspects remain in custody and have been turned over to federal prosecutors.
Authorities noted that the same carwash was the scene of a killing three months ago, when a man was shot to death, raising further concerns that the business had been doubling as a criminal front.
