Landslide Hits Exclusive Hillside Enclave in Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico — A landslide struck Thursday morning in Cerro Colorado, an upscale hillside development where multimillion-dollar homes and luxury villas — many owned by wealthy Americans — line the slopes near the Lienzo Charro area.

The slide was triggered by saturated soil after days of heavy rains brought by Hurricane Lorena, sending earth and debris cascading from slopes currently under excavation for new construction projects.

Officials on high alert

Los Cabos City Hall said in a statement that municipal civil protection crews, firefighters and emergency responders rushed to the site to inspect the damage and assess risks.

Alberto Rentería Santana, the city’s secretary general, reported that no injuries had been confirmed but that officials were considering whether evacuations of nearby homes might be necessary.

“So far, there are no reports of casualties. We will not spare any effort to safeguard public safety,” Rentería said.

Location

Early bulletins identified the location as the Lienzo Charro neighborhood. Authorities later confirmed the landslide occurred in Cerro Colorado, just across from El Pedregal, one of Cabo San Lucas’ most exclusive gated communities, known for its ocean-view mansions and celebrity homeowners.

Officials urged residents and visitors to rely on official communication channels and avoid spreading unverified reports.
