Three Dead in Crash on Transpeninsular Highway in Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico — Authorities confirmed that three people were killed Monday afternoon in a violent crash on the Transpeninsular Highway, near the Costco shopping center in Cabo San Lucas.

Rescue crews found two mangled vehicles at the scene: a Jeep Cherokee, where the driver was pronounced dead inside the SUV, and a Ford pickup, where another victim was discovered with no vital signs. A third person, also injured in the wreck, later died after being rushed to the General Hospital in Cabo San Lucas.

At least three other people suffered serious injuries and remain hospitalized in critical condition, according to emergency responders.

By early evening, traffic toward San José del Cabo was still snarled. Central lanes of the highway remained closed as investigators conducted on-site examinations. Traffic was being funneled onto the elevated “Misiones” bridge, creating heavy congestion and long delays.

The response included private ambulances, paramedics and Cabo San Lucas firefighters. The National Guard’s Highway Division has taken over the investigation to determine the cause of the collision, which remains unclear.
