Cabo San Lucas Kicks Off Prestigious Bisbee's Fishing Tournament with Record $7.4 Million Purse

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The 45th edition of the world-renowned Bisbee's Black & Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament officially launched Wednesday morning with the traditional starting signal, fired by Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez, cementing this destination's status as a global leader in sportfishing and luxury tourism.

In his opening remarks, Mayor Agúndez emphasized that the Bisbee's tournament is not just a major economic driver for local businesses but a pivotal event that signals the start of the region's high tourist season, putting Los Cabos firmly in the international spotlight.

"We are always committed to providing the level of service our tourism deserves," the mayor stated. "Sportfishing tournaments and tourism will always have the full support of this administration, with the best facilities and a firm commitment to safety for visitors and residents alike. Los Cabos is the premier destination for sportfishing."

The mayor was joined by Cabo San Lucas municipal delegate Karina de la O Uribe, who highlighted the tournament as a chance to showcase the area's potential and its positive impact on the local hotel and commercial sectors.

The tournament's coordinator, Clicerio Mercado, confirmed that this year's competition, running from Oct. 22-24, has 179 boats registered and features a guaranteed prize purse of $7.4 million—a massive pot that solidifies its place as one of the richest and most high-stakes fishing contests in the world.

Mercado also announced that this year's event includes funding for community projects, such as the construction of a fireboat for the Cabo San Lucas marina—the first of its kind in Mexico—and a monumental clock to be installed on Lázaro Cárdenas Avenue.
