Los Cabos to Launch Halloween Safety Operation Amid Large Crowds Expected Downtown

CABO SAN LUCAS — With thousands of families expected to take to the streets for Halloween festivities, the Municipal Civil Protection Directorate, in coordination with the Municipal Police, announced a special safety operation to be deployed on the afternoon and evening of October 31 throughout the downtown area of Cabo San Lucas.

Francisco Cota Márquez, head of Civil Protection, said the measure aims to ensure a safe and orderly celebration, noting that Cabo San Lucas traditionally draws the largest crowds in the municipality during Halloween, unlike San José del Cabo, where the event is typically more subdued.

The plan includes the deployment of officers and patrol units at high-traffic points to monitor public spaces, respond to emergencies, and prevent disturbances. “Our priority is to keep the evening peaceful and incident-free,” Cota Márquez said, recalling that in past years, disruptions and unruly behavior have occasionally marred the celebrations.

“This is a family event, and we want it to remain that way,” he added. “We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and to respect the traditional activity of children going door-to-door for candy.”

Traffic authorities will also implement temporary road closures and detours starting at 4:00 p.m. to manage the expected surge of visitors. Juan Manuel Torres Sánchez, traffic operations coordinator in Cabo San Lucas, said that beginning around 5:00 p.m., Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard will be closed to vehicles, redirecting traffic toward 16 de Septiembre Street, while traffic from the Marina and Cultural Pavilion areas will be rerouted along Miguel Hidalgo Street near the Tesoro Hotel.

The restrictions will remain in place until approximately 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. on November 1, depending on crowd behavior. Authorities are urging residents and visitors alike to cooperate with officials, follow traffic guidance, and help ensure a safe and festive Halloween night in Cabo San Lucas.
