LOS CABOS, Mexico – The local government has activated an emergency support protocol for five families who lost their homes in a fire that broke out on the afternoon of November 9 in the Lagunitas neighborhood of Cabo San Lucas.
According to officials, the blaze, which was extinguished by the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department and Civil Protection units, did not result in any injuries. However, three houses were completely destroyed, leaving five families without shelter.
Acting on the instructions of Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez, the Municipal Directorate of Citizen Attention, led by Manuel Guerrero Avilés, mobilized to provide immediate assistance to the victims.
“Our focus was on addressing the emergency and ensuring the families had a safe place to spend the night,” Guerrero Avilés stated. “We distributed blankets, sleeping mats, and essential supplies while arranging temporary shelter for them.”
The official detailed that a follow-up visit is planned with Public Services personnel to conduct cleanup operations and remove debris from the scorched properties. Furthermore, the city will begin distributing construction materials to aid in the rebuilding of the lost homes.
In a significant move to provide stability, Mayor Agúndez personally directed the city to cover three months of rental housing for each displaced family as they work to recover. Guerrero Avilés noted that the mayor himself will cover the cost of the rentals, a gesture he characterized as an act of empathy and solidarity.
“The mayor was very clear: no family should be left without a roof over their head,” Guerrero Avilés said. “These actions, consistent with his previous responses, demonstrate his administration's sensitivity and closeness to the people.”
The Los Cabos government reaffirmed its commitment to standing with residents, providing comprehensive support during emergencies, and ensuring dignified living conditions for families facing adversity.
