Todos Santos, BCS — The Surf Open Cerritos 2025 officially launched Thursday, drawing elite surfers from around the world and delivering a significant economic boost to the coastal communities of El Pescadero and Todos Santos. According to Municipal Tourism Director Natalia Ruffo Castaño, the four-day competition is expected to generate an estimated 3.5 million pesos in local revenue.
Ruffo Castaño said the economic impact is driven not only by the athletes but also by the teams, coaches, relatives and support staff who accompany them. The influx of visitors is already fueling spending on hotels, restaurants, ground transportation, tour services and both domestic and international flights.
The director emphasized that, for the second year in a row, the tournament confirms Cerritos Beach — located in the municipal delegation of El Pescadero — as a rising hub for sports tourism. She noted that the event strengthens the area’s reputation as a prime destination for travelers seeking outdoor adventure, pristine nature and world-class waves.
This year’s edition brings together 137 high-performance surfers representing 14 countries, including several competitors ranked by the World Surf League (WSL). Heats will run daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. along one of the most consistent and surf-friendly beaches in the municipality of La Paz.
Local businesses and tourism officials say they expect visitor activity to remain strong throughout the weekend as spectators arrive to watch some of the sport’s top talent compete on Baja California Sur’s Pacific coast.
