Cerro del Vigía to serve as a natural stage for the New Year’s countdown
Cabo San Lucas will usher in the New Year with a high-tech, environmentally conscious light show designed to transform the city’s iconic bay into a shared celebration of light, sound and community.
The Los Cabos municipal government, through its Department of Tourism, is inviting residents and visitors alike to welcome the New Year with “Luz del Vigía,” an innovative visual experience scheduled for the night of Dec. 31 at Medano Beach. City officials say the event reflects a broader commitment to strengthening the destination’s global image, encouraging togetherness and offering memorable, safe and responsible ways to celebrate the holiday season.
A Sustainable Alternative to Fireworks
Presented by the Medano Beach Business Association, the show replaces traditional fireworks with synchronized laser technology and music, significantly reducing noise and environmental impact. The approach aligns with international best practices in responsible tourism and reflects a growing shift toward greener large-scale celebrations.
Cerro del Vigía will anchor the event, acting as a natural projection surface for sweeping beams of light and a large digital countdown marking the arrival of 2026. The display will be visible from hotels, restaurants, the beach itself and even from boats across the bay.
A Coordinated Experience Across Land and Sea
The production will feature 25 professional-grade laser units installed at strategic points along Medano Beach, positioned between 16 and 85 feet high and ranging from 30 to 120 watts in power. Together, they will create a corridor of light drawing attention toward the hilltop landmark.
“Luz del Vigía” will be presented in five segments between 8 p.m. and 11:50 p.m., each with its own musical track and visual theme, building a narrative that culminates in the midnight countdown. Participating beachfront businesses will play the same soundtrack simultaneously, creating a rare, fully synchronized experience along the shoreline.
Boats anchored in the bay will also be able to join the final countdown, extending the celebration offshore.
City officials describe the event as the next step in the evolution of Cabo San Lucas’ New Year’s Eve celebrations. Since 2022, the destination has experimented with drone shows featuring up to 200 units. In 2025, laser projections take center stage, reinforcing a long-term vision focused on innovation and sustainability.
Technical production will be handled by Interlaser México, a company with more than two decades of experience producing internationally recognized light shows and the official Mexican distributor of leading global laser brands used at world-class events.
