Los Cabos launches major pothole repair and resurfacing effort on Transpeninsular Highway

New program aims to improve traffic flow and road safety in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo

LOS CABOS, Mexico — Local officials announced plans to roll out a comprehensive pothole repair and resurfacing program along the Transpeninsular Highway, a critical corridor that runs through the heart of Los Cabos and serves thousands of commuters, residents, and tourists each day.

The initiative, expected to begin in the coming days, was outlined by Christopher Enríquez González, director general of Public Works for the Los Cabos municipal government. He said the effort is designed to improve mobility and strengthen road infrastructure across both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.

According to Enríquez González, the new plan will operate alongside the city’s ongoing “Caza Baches” program, a permanent pothole-repair strategy already active on neighborhood streets throughout the municipality. The expanded work on the Transpeninsular Highway will be carried out through a coordinated effort involving the Los Cabos City Hall, the Fondo de Obras e Infraestructura Social (FOIS), and the Government of Baja California Sur.

“The pothole repair program we were already running will restart next Monday,” Enríquez González said. “At the same time, we will begin resurfacing and additional pothole repairs on the Transpeninsular Highway under a joint agreement with FOIS and the state government. This will allow us to rehabilitate several key sections of this vital roadway.”

City officials said details on the work schedule, including specific locations and construction hours, will be released in the coming days through official municipal communication channels. The goal, they said, is to keep the public informed and help drivers plan their commutes around temporary lane closures or slowdowns.

Enríquez González emphasized that the “Caza Baches” program will remain in place on a permanent basis, reinforcing the city’s broader commitment to road safety and improved mobility for both motorists and pedestrians.

Local authorities say the combined efforts are intended to address long-standing concerns over road conditions on one of the most heavily traveled routes in southern Baja California Sur.
