Fire tears through commercial strip in Cabo San Lucas, leaving heavy losses but no injuries

A late-night blaze gutted multiple businesses in the Obrera neighborhood, prompting evacuations and renewing calls for electrical safety checks.

A fire that broke out shortly before midnight Saturday ripped through a row of small businesses in the Obrera neighborhood of Cabo San Lucas, burning into the early hours of Sunday and causing extensive property damage, authorities said. The affected area sits along Camino al Faro and Otomíes streets, just two blocks from the municipal delegation building.

Firefighters battled the flames for several hours as police and civil protection officials carried out a precautionary evacuation of nearby residents to prevent injuries and help contain the blaze. Roughly ten businesses were damaged, including gift shops, tattoo studios, a tortas ahogadas restaurant, the Jahaziel bakery, and a well-known bridal and quinceañera dress shop, Las Madrinas. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Sunday. In the wake of the incident, the Los Cabos business community renewed its call for thorough inspections of electrical systems in high-density commercial areas to reduce the risk of similar emergencies. The warning follows a recent incident last week in which a casino at Plaza Puerto Paraíso was evacuated after a small electrical fire broke out at its power center.
