Los Cabos Sets Guinness World Record With World’s Longest Sashimi Line

San José del Cabo, Mexico — The municipal government of Los Cabos, working alongside private businesses and community organizations, has officially secured a Guinness World Record for the longest sashimi line ever prepared. The main esplanade of Plaza Mijares in downtown San José del Cabo was transformed into a vibrant culinary stage where renowned local chefs, hospitality professionals and culinary students came together to showcase the region’s seafood tradition and gastronomic talent.

Guinness World Records officials confirmed that the sashimi line stretched more than 1,275 meters (about 4,180 feet), placing Los Cabos firmly on the global culinary map. The achievement highlights the region’s rich seafood culture and reinforces the area’s growing reputation as an international destination for gastronomy and tourism.

During the official validation ceremony, Los Cabos Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez praised the efforts of event promoter Jesús “Chucho” Montaño, whose vision helped bring the record attempt to life. The mayor also thanked the dozens of chefs, hospitality groups, culinary schools, students, hotel workers and community volunteers who contributed to the effort. Local officials say the record-breaking event is expected to boost tourism and further promote the region’s culinary identity.

The milestone comes as “sashimi panguero,” a local-style sashimi made with freshly caught fish from small fishing boats, has recently gained recognition as a signature dish of southern Baja California Sur. The designation was supported through collaboration with CANIRAC, Mexico’s National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry, strengthening the role of local cuisine within the region’s tourism offering.

The official measurement and certification were carried out by Guinness World Records adjudicator Alfredo Arista Rueda, who closely supervised the preparation to ensure the attempt met strict international standards regarding hygiene, continuity of the sashimi line and total weight. With the participation of professional chefs, culinary students and dozens of volunteers, the event not only set a new world record but also showcased Los Cabos’ capacity to host large-scale international culinary events while celebrating the region’s seafood heritage.
