Major California Operation Rescues 37 Missing Children and Uncovers Human Trafficking Network

A major multi-agency law enforcement operation in Southern California has led to the rescue of 37 missing minors, some of whom were victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, authorities announced.

The operation, known as “Operation Safe Return,” was coordinated by the Human Trafficking Task Force and involved multiple federal and state agencies, including the , the , , and the , along with local police departments across Southern California.

Authorities reported that between 5,000 and 6,000 minors are reported missing every year in Riverside County, although many are eventually located. This particular operation focused on more complex cases involving minors who had been missing for extended periods, ranging from one month to nearly two years.

Investigators identified over 50 missing youths between the ages of 14 and 17 and carried out coordinated searches across Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and Los Angeles counties, as well as in neighboring states such as Arizona and Nevada.

As a result of the operation:

  • 37 minors were safely located and rescued
  • Seven suspects were arrested
  • One federal arrest was made for sex trafficking of a minor

Officials revealed that some of the recovered minors had been victims of sexual exploitation and abuse, highlighting the seriousness of the criminal networks involved.

After being rescued, the minors were provided with medical care, counseling, and social services before being reunited with their families or placed under protective supervision.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that collaboration between federal agencies, local police, and social services is essential to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable youth.

The case underscores the growing concern in the United States over missing children and trafficking networks, an issue that continues to prompt large-scale enforcement operations and national attention.
