Los Cabos officials say recent quakes are part of natural tectonic activity, urge residents to stay alert

LOS CABOS, Mexico — Recent seismic activity reported across several areas of Los Cabos remains within the range of natural tectonic adjustment processes common to the region, municipal Civil Protection officials said.

Francisco Cota Márquez, head of the city’s Civil Protection office, said the latest tremors have generally been brief and have registered magnitudes above 3.0, prompting authorities to maintain continuous monitoring of seismic conditions throughout the municipality.

Cota Márquez said Civil Protection personnel are closely tracking the situation in order to provide timely information to the public and reinforce preventive measures in neighborhoods, schools, workplaces and public spaces.

The official urged residents to put safety first whenever an earthquake is felt. He recommended staying away from windows, glass doors, hanging objects, shelves or any structure that could break loose and cause injuries during shaking.

He also called on families, businesses and schools to identify safe areas in advance and to review basic emergency procedures, stressing that seismic activity may continue in the coming days.

Authorities said residents should follow instructions issued by official agencies and avoid relying on rumors or unverified information circulating on social media like Facebook.

Cota Márquez said preparedness remains the most effective tool for reducing risk during natural events such as earthquakes.

“Prevention and an adequate response are essential to protect lives,” he said, emphasizing that the public should remain informed through official channels as monitoring continues across Los Cabos.
