According to the report, Los Angeles police responded around 11:00 a.m. near Temple and Alameda streets, where the two victims were treated at the scene for lacerations. Authorities had not confirmed whether the injured men were actually participating in the bike ride.
The event began around 10:00 a.m. near that same intersection and was scheduled to end around noon. This year’s ride included 7-mile and 9-mile routes through downtown Los Angeles.
Police said the suspect was an adult male dressed entirely in black and riding a scooter. He was later taken into custody and was awaiting booking.
The annual ride is part of the international World Naked Bike Ride, a grassroots movement that promotes positive body image, cyclist visibility, and safer streets. The event is known for attracting nude and semi-nude riders in cities across the country.
Organizers say nudity is not required, but cyclists are encouraged to “ride as bare as they dare.” Some participants ride fully nude, others wear body paint, and many join as a form of protest, celebration, and public awareness.
What was expected to be a colorful and peaceful event in the heart of Los Angeles turned into a police matter after the BB gun attack left two people hurt and one suspect behind bars.
A permitted bike ride meant to promote freedom, visibility and safer streets ended up making headlines for an unexpected act of violence.
