TRAGEDY IN PUERTO VALLARTA: CROCODILE KILLS MAN NEAR POPULAR BEACH RESORT

A shocking tragedy has shaken Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, after a crocodile attacked and killed a 28-year-old man on a heavily used beach in one of Mexico’s most famous tourist destinations.

According to the report, the victim was taking part in recreational activities at Marina Vallarta Beach, in front of the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa, when the attack happened on Friday evening. The crocodile reportedly dragged him out to sea, triggering an overnight search involving several law enforcement and rescue agencies.

The man’s body was found early Saturday morning, about 1,000 feet offshore. Authorities said the crocodile believed to be involved in the attack was captured nearby.

Although crocodile attacks in Puerto Vallarta are considered rare, they are not unheard of. The report recalls that in 2022, two tourists from Colorado were injured by a crocodile while swimming in the ocean at night. In 2021, an 18-year-old woman from Northern California was also attacked and injured by a crocodile near the same Marriott property.

The government of Jalisco described Friday’s attack as “deeply unfortunate, unusual and isolated,” while noting that crocodiles in the area are subject to ongoing monitoring and management. After the incident, surveillance was increased in high-risk areas.

A Marriott spokesperson said the hotel had warning signs, night patrols and red flags in place to alert beachgoers about possible dangers, including crocodiles, jellyfish and stingrays.

Witnesses said they heard screams coming from the water and saw the victim being pulled under as they tried to reach him. The scene left tourists and locals deeply shaken.

Authorities issued an urgent warning to visitors and residents:
Pay close attention to warning signs, avoid swimming in high-risk areas, especially at dawn, dusk and at night, and immediately report any crocodile sightings.

Puerto Vallarta remains one of Mexico’s most visited beach destinations, but this tragic case is a powerful reminder that natural risks along the coast must be taken seriously.

A heartbreaking incident that has raised alarms in one of Mexico’s most iconic Pacific beach resorts.
