Just before 6:00 a.m. today, a fire erupted at The Giggling Marlin, a popular restaurant in the tourist district of Cabo San Lucas. Witnesses promptly alerted emergency services, and fire department units were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames engulfing the interior of The Giggling Marlin. They quickly cordoned off the area, evacuating nearby establishments and an apartment building. With the support of the Municipal Police, Lazaro Cárdenas and Marina boulevards were also closed to ensure public safety.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but The Giggling Marlin restaurant bar has suffered total losses. Fire Department Commander Juan Carbajal announced that an investigation is underway to determine the cause.
A newly installed hydrant in a strategic location played a crucial role in battling the blaze. Firefighters also received valuable support from the city's drinking water system and private company tankers, aiding significantly in extinguishing the fire.
The Cabo San Lucas Fire Department released the following message:
"The famous Giggling Marlin Restaurant located on Marina Blvd. is part of the history of Cabo San Lucas, today it was severely affected by a fire. Hopefully it will be rebuilt soon. Firefighters We invite tourism entrepreneurs to constantly review their systems, and to involve their local firefighters to coordinate possible actions".
By 9:00 a.m., the previously closed streets were reopened to vehicle traffic.
