Los Angeles Police Department officers responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call shot and killed the suspect early Saturday morning, authorities said.
Police were first dispatched to the 9400 block of Van Nuys Boulevard in Panorama City just after 12:30 a.m., according to initial reports released by the LAPD Public Information Officer.
The woman was approached by the officers, who ordered her to put down the knife and turn herself in. Officers opened fire shortly after the woman disobeyed, according to police.
Officers used a Taser before the shooting, according to the police.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken into custody. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
According to the LAPD, a knife was found at the site and will be reported as evidence.
