SEA SHEPHERD rejected in Baja California Sur

Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío has voiced his support for local fishermen who oppose the presence of Sea Shepherd vessels in the Gulf of Ulloa, located in the municipality of Comondú. The environmental organization plans to implement ongoing surveillance in the area to safeguard the loggerhead sea turtle.

The Governor of Baja California Sur has announced that the ship's presence is authorized for "research purposes" under an agreement with the Federal Government, with backing from the Secretary of the Navy.

However, the environmental organization, funded by the United States government, has accused local fishermen of causing turtle mortality in the area. The fishermen view this accusation as disproportionate and believe it unfairly seeks to criminalize their livelihood.

Sea Shepherd, an environmental organization funded by the United States government, has received decommissioned coast guard vessels from Washington. These vessels are being used to conduct surveillance in the Gulf of California and along the peninsula's coastlines.
