Los Cabos Leaders Hold Emergency Meeting as Hurricane Flossie Approaches

Los Cabos City Hall called an urgent emergency meeting Monday as Hurricane Flossie, currently a Category 1 storm, tracks toward the southern Baja California peninsula.

Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez led the third special session of the Municipal Civil Protection Council. The meeting focused on coordinating preventive actions ahead of Flossie's potential impact.

Francisco Cota Márquez, head of local Civil Protection, presented the storm's latest path. "Flossie continues moving parallel to the Pacific coast, heading toward Baja California Sur," he reported, adding that forecasts predict it could strengthen to a Category 2 hurricane soon.

Mayor Agúndez Gómez urged council members to stay alert and keep the public constantly updated on Flossie's track. He warned residents to prepare for possible heavy rain and strong winds.

"Heavy rainfall between 3 to 6 inches (75-150 mm), wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph (50-70 km/h), and dangerous waves reaching 11 to 15 feet (3.5-4.5 meters) are expected Wednesday and Thursday," the Mayor stated. "Port closures for boats could happen as early as tonight."

Military representatives outlined their operational plans and available forces for emergency response. Officials from local, state, and federal agencies also detailed protective measures their departments will implement to keep citizens safe.

The Civil Protection Council will remain in permanent session, tracking Flossie in real-time, assessing risks, and coordinating actions between agencies to protect local families.

Critical Concern: Over 20,000 people living in high-risk areas of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo – particularly near dry riverbeds on unstable land – require evacuation whenever major storms threaten. Preparations for potential evacuations are underway.

Residents are advised to closely monitor official updates and follow all safety instructions from Civil Protection authorities.
