Wins 2024 World's Ugliest Dog Contest

The World's Ugliest Dog Contest winner for this year is an 8-year-old Pekingese.

Wild Thang, a five-time contender in the yearly competition hosted at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in the city of Petaluma, northern California, is celebrating his maiden victory. The Pekingese finished third three times prior to winning this year, and its owner Ann Lewis was awarded $5,000 in prize money.

Known for his long, incredibly fluffy coat and protruding tongue, Wild Thang, a North Bend, Oregon resident who was raised in Los Angeles, was one of eight dogs competing for the esteemed title on Friday night.

Judge Fiona Ma of California State Treasurer remarked of Wild Thang, "Wild Thang was a fan favorite."

"It truly broke our hearts that he had competed five times and had only placed second [up until now], much like the bridesmaid and never the bride. He was deserving of the victory."

"He's never had a haircut," she said. "He likes to sleep on ice packs, believe it or not. And he is just a sweet dog."
