General Hospital star Leslie Charleson has sadly passed away at the age of 79 after being hospitalized last week due to a terrible fall. The actress famously portrayed Monica Quartermaine in the iconic soap opera, whose former star Michael Easton recently explained his 'off the grid' absence.'
Although the exact cause of Leslie's death hasn't been disclosed, she had faced several health issues in recent years, including multiple falls which affected her mobility, necessitating the use of a walker. Just a week before her passing, she was admitted to the hospital following another fall.
Leslie's health struggles began back in 2017 when a dog-walking accident led to a leg injury, causing her to take a two-month break from General Hospital, whose Lulu Spencer storyline made fans claim they're 'done' with the series. During this hiatus from the show, where fans are convinced they have solved a long-running on-screen mystery, Patty McCormack temporarily filled in for her.
In October 2023, it was announced that it seemed improbable for Leslie to make a comeback to the show, and her final episode aired in December 2023.
General Hospital's Executive Producer Frank Valentini expressed his sorrow with a heartfelt statement on X: "It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson."
He added: "Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on General Hospital alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew. I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit and incredible presence on set. On behalf of everyone at General Hospital, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time."
Fans responded to Valentini's post with prayer emojis and sad faces, expressing their condolences. "I'm so sorry to hear of Leslie Charleson's passing. May she rest in peace," one fan commented.
