La Paz Airport Takes Off with Major Makeover: A Game-Changer for Travelers

La Paz, Baja California Sur – The clock is ticking on a major transformation at La Paz International Airport! As part of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico’s (GAP) 2025-2029 Master Plan, the airport is stepping up its game with a $1,099 million peso overhaul to revamp its terminal, runway, and services over the next five years. The goal? To roll out the red carpet for over 1.2 million passengers who pass through this gateway annually—a number that’s been climbing fast.

What’s in the Works?
- Bigger & Better Spaces: The terminal will grow by 1,400 square meters, with the security checkpoint area getting a 66% boost—so travelers can breeze through without breaking a sweat.
- Baggage Claim Upgrade: The luggage pickup zone is expanding by 63%, cutting down wait times and giving passengers more breathing room.
- Runway Revival: The airport’s runway is getting a facelift to keep operations safe, smooth, and on point, ensuring flights land and take off without a hitch.

Sky-High Growth: New Routes & Rising Numbers
La Paz Airport has been hitting it out of the park lately, with passenger traffic jumping 20% over the last five years. In 2024, it scored a slam dunk by launching a new direct route to Los Angeles, putting international travel back on the menu. Fast forward to 2025, and the momentum hasn’t slowed: 404,000 passengers passed through January-April alone—a 9% spike compared to 2024.

Blanca Sarahí Castro Araiza, the airport’s director, put it bluntly:
“We’re not just keeping up with the times—we’re ahead of the curve. With these upgrades, we’re raising the bar to attract more routes and make sure every traveler leaves impressed. La Paz is ready to shine on the global stage.”

GAP Goes All-In Nationwide
La Paz’s glow-up is just one piece of GAP’s $52 billion peso mega-investment to modernize its 12 airports across Mexico by 2029. This isn’t small potatoes—it’s the company’s biggest infrastructure push ever, aimed at turning its airports into top-tier hubs that fuel economic growth and connect communities.

What’s Next?
Construction at La Paz Airport will kick off soon, with crews working overtime to keep disruptions to a minimum. For GAP, it’s all hands on deck to deliver a travel experience that’s next-level. As the saying goes: “If you build it, they will come.” And with these upgrades, La Paz is poised to become the crown jewel of Mexico’s Pacific coast.
