Lifeguard Saves Drowning Teen Tourist at Los Cabos Beach

A quick-acting lifeguard prevented a tragedy at Las Viudas beach in Cabo San Lucas. Alejandro Espinoza, a staff member from the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone office (Zofemat) in Los Cabos, rescued a 16-year-old Portuguese tourist, Isabella, who was being swept out to sea by strong currents.

Isabella reported being caught by powerful waves that prevented her from returning to shore, forcing her to call for help. "The waves were pulling me under, and not many people could hear me," she stated. "Luckily, the Zofemat officer arrived quickly; I'm very grateful for his help."

Following this incident, City of Los Cabos authorities are urging the public to strictly obey the warning flags posted on beaches and follow all safety instructions given by lifeguards. This is crucial to prevent emergencies and avoid risking personal safety.

Zofemat Los Cabos reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing beach safety through increased preventative education and ongoing training for its beach personnel, ensuring the protection of all visitors.
