El Pescadero — A Canadian man died Monday afternoon after being pulled from the ocean unconscious at Cerritos Beach, a popular surf spot in the community of El Pescadero, in the municipality of La Paz. Despite repeated CPR attempts by rescuers and paramedics, the victim never regained a heartbeat and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
Authorities reported that emergency responders arrived at approximately 2:40 p.m., where they found an ambulance from the Pescadero Volunteer Fire Department already on site and several beachgoers gathered around the man. He was lying on a surfboard, wearing black swim trunks, unresponsive as paramedics continued resuscitation efforts.
Family members and surfers who witnessed the incident said they heard people shouting for help as others struggled to pull the man from the water. Once on shore, bystanders immediately called for medical assistance and local authorities while attempting to keep him stabilized on the sand.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Todos Santos ordered the completion of the official First Respondent Police Report as part of standard procedure in accidental deaths.
The victim was identified as Victor Smith, a 62-year-old citizen of Canada. State authorities continue with legal and forensic protocols to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
