Art Baja California Festival Unveils New Edition of ‘Art Hopping’ in Los Cabos

A night where contemporary art meets fine dining is set to transform Koral Center into one of the region’s most vibrant cultural stages.

LOS CABOS, Mexico — The Art Baja California Festival will return this spring with a new edition of Art Hopping, an evening designed to blend contemporary art, gastronomy and creative dialogue in one immersive cultural experience.

Scheduled for the night of March 21, the event invites both residents and visitors to step outside the traditional gallery circuit and explore a curated program of exhibitions and culinary offerings at Koral Center in Cerro Colorado, one of Los Cabos’ emerging cultural hubs.

The evening will feature two simultaneous exhibitions showcasing works by internationally recognized and emerging artists, including surrealist icon Leonora Carrington, photographer Ben Horton, visual artist Karla de Lara of OZA International, and rising Mexican painter Sebastián Zura, represented by Ginocchio Galería.

A journey through transformation in Sebastián Zura’s work

Ginocchio Galería will present the exhibition “From Flowers, From Bones,” a survey of approximately 15 works tracing the evolution of Sebastián Zura’s artistic practice.

The show explores the symbolic and material transformation within Zura’s work — from early pieces centered on the recurring motif of the flower to his latest paintings created using pigments derived from the desert soil of Baja California Sur and black pigment made from burned bones.

Working primarily on raw cotton canvas and using wooden framing systems designed and produced by the artist himself, Zura approaches painting as both a material and ritual process, emphasizing gesture, repetition and the physical properties of natural materials.

The exhibition begins with early works such as “Common Saints” (2024), where repeated floral symbols appear within grid-like compositions that evoke a shared cultural imagery. Later pieces, including “Flowers I Never Gave” (2025), reveal a more expressive approach through layered fields of floral forms.

The exhibition culminates with the series “Bound to Earth” (2026), where the floral motif disappears entirely, giving way to minimalist compositions in which painterly gesture and the raw materiality of pigment take center stage.

One of the highlights of the exhibition will be the unveiling of a new large-scale piece measuring 30,000 square centimeters, the largest work produced by Zura to date and a milestone in the young artist’s career.

Culinary storytelling by Chef Poncho Cadena

As part of the evening’s multidisciplinary concept, Chef Poncho Cadena, the culinary force behind Carbón Cabrón, has designed an exclusive tasting menu available only during the March 21 event.

Cadena’s menu mirrors the themes of transformation and materiality present in Zura’s paintings. Each dish reflects a stage in the artist’s creative process — beginning with floral notes and coastal flavors, gradually moving toward deeper, earthier profiles before concluding with a sorbet symbolizing the transformative cycle explored in Zura’s work.

The special menu will be available by reservation only between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“The Art of the Invisible” exhibition

Running alongside the Ginocchio show, OZA International will present the exhibition “El Arte de lo Invisible” (The Art of the Invisible) in the rear courtyard of Koral Center.

The exhibit will feature works by Leonora Carrington, along with pieces by Karla de Lara and acclaimed photographer Ben Horton, who is expected to attend the event in person.

The exhibition will be open to visitors from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A growing cultural platform in Los Cabos

Together, the exhibitions and culinary experience aim to create a space where art, food and curatorial vision intersect, highlighting the growing role of Los Cabos as a destination not only for tourism but also for contemporary artistic expression.

With its third edition of Art Hopping, the Art Baja California Festival continues to position the region as a gathering point for artists, collectors and cultural audiences seeking a new kind of creative experience along Mexico’s Pacific coast.
