Federal agencies increase vigilance amid geopolitical tensions with Iran
A report indicates that U.S. authorities are closely monitoring the potential presence of Iranian sleeper cells operating within the United States. During a press conference on March 9, former President Donald Trump stated that his administration had been aware of possible covert Iranian networks for some time and was actively tracking their activities. However, he provided few details regarding the scope of these operations or the level of threat they may pose.
According to Trump, intelligence officials have gathered significant information about these suspected networks, which are believed to consist of individuals operating undercover until they receive orders to act. The issue gained renewed attention following questions about whether the Iranian government had activated such covert groups inside U.S. territory.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) remains the primary agency responsible for investigating and preventing domestic and international terrorism within the United States. Reports suggest that U.S. intelligence agencies may have intercepted encrypted communications originating in Iran that could serve as operational signals to sleeper assets abroad.
Although the U.S. government has not issued a specific public warning about imminent threats linked to Iranian sleeper cells, federal authorities, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, have reportedly increased their alert level. This heightened vigilance comes amid escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran following military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Historically, U.S. officials have accused Iran of involvement in various plots targeting American interests both domestically and internationally. Authorities say they continue to monitor intelligence signals and potential threats as part of ongoing efforts to prevent terrorism and safeguard national security.
