San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur — The U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana has issued a security alert for American citizens following recent violent incidents reported in San José del Cabo, near the main international airport serving the Cabo San Lucas area.
According to the notice, U.S. officials are aware of media reports involving two security incidents between criminal groups and Mexican law enforcement authorities near the airport area. The Consulate urged U.S. citizens to remain alert, warning that additional violence could occur at any time.
Although the incidents happened outside the traditional tourist zones, the alert notes that many American travelers use the San José del Cabo International Airport when visiting Los Cabos. For that reason, U.S. citizens were advised to exercise increased vigilance throughout Cabo San Lucas and especially around the airport.
The Consulate also reminded travelers that rideshare services such as Uber are allowed to drop passengers off at the San José del Cabo airport, but they are not authorized to pick up passengers there. U.S. citizens were encouraged to use clearly marked taxis with visible identification numbers and readable license plates when leaving the airport.
The advisory further stated that travel restrictions for U.S. government employees remain in effect, including a ban on traveling between cities after dark.
As part of the recommended safety measures, the Consulate advised Americans to monitor local media for updates, stay aware of their surroundings, follow instructions from local law enforcement, and notify friends or family of their safety if additional incidents occur.
The alert comes amid growing concern over recent violence in the San José del Cabo area, particularly in zones used by both residents and international visitors traveling to and from the region.
