Officials Reopen Beach Access After Public Complaints

  • Authorities remove gate blocking popular surfing spot following reports through city app

Todos Santos – Municipal officials in La Paz on Wednesday reopened a public path to a beach in El Pescadero after residents reported it was blocked by a private gate. The action came in response to complaints filed through the city's official "La Paz App."

The intervention targeted a road in the Plutarco Elías Calles Ejido that leads to the coastal area known as "Los Cerritos," a popular spot for surfers and beachgoers. City workers, coordinated by the municipal comptroller's office, removed the gate that had restricted access.

Before taking action, city technicians conducted on-site inspections and reviewed official maps. They confirmed the path is a public right-of-way that cannot be legally closed off by private individuals. Citing municipal and state urban development regulations, authorities stated the closure was unlawful.

Crews from  Municipal Public Services dismantled the fencing, cleared the area, and fully restored public access to the shoreline.

Part of a Broader "Beach Liberation" Effort
The operation is part of the city's "Beach Liberation 2.0" program, an initiative launched by the administration of Mayor Milena Quiroga Romero. The mayor's office reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public access to all municipal beaches.

The municipal comptroller encouraged residents to continue using the city app to report any other blocked paths or public roads leading to beaches. "Public access to our coastline is a guaranteed right," the official said. "We rely on community reports to identify and address these violations."
