Woman Killed in Crash Along Cabo San Lucas Tourist Corridor

Authorities open investigation into cause of deadly wreck

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico — A woman was killed Friday afternoon after her vehicle crashed along the tourist corridor connecting Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, authorities said.

The fatal accident occurred near Kilometer 12.3, when the driver lost control of a late-model Honda City while traveling toward San José del Cabo. The car slammed into a metal guardrail, which pierced the front of the vehicle and caused catastrophic damage.

Emergency calls were placed shortly after 4 p.m., and firefighters and paramedics from the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department were the first responders on scene. After assessing the driver — who was the sole occupant of the vehicle — paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The crash led to heavy traffic delays as National Guard officers secured the area and restricted access to allow emergency and forensic personnel to work. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the Jaws of Life, to recover the victim from the wreckage before the arrival of the forensic medical team.

The Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office has taken over the case and will conduct the official investigation to determine the cause of the crash and whether any additional factors contributed to the fatal incident.
